Ask.com, I thank you for sponsoring the free wireless access at PubCon. Google, Yahoo, Opera, TextLinkAds, and the rest of you — next time, why not put your lovely logos on some power strips and throw one at every outlet in each of the conference rooms and in the lounge areas? Walk into any conference session, and you’ll see clusters of two or four peoples gathered at the sides of the room, charging their laptop batteries and sometimes blogging live about the session.
For the conference setup for next year, it’d be great to have one fewer chair on each row, and have a row of chairs along the sides of the room where these power strips would be. This would keep peoples’ legs out of the aisle, as well as keeping the power cords out of the aisle. There’s enough people here that I haven’t been able to see if there are any power drops in the floor in the middle of the room, but strips there would be nice as well.
Wave if you see me over at Fry’s tonight, I’ll be picking up my own small power strip so I can plug in my laptop despite the crowd.
